The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Northern Kentucky, 5-4.
Sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) defeated Heather Gilmore 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) topped Jessica Kirkpatrick 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. The other singles win came by freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar), who posted a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win over Kristina Cunningham at No. 6.
Elizabeth Brunsman defeated sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1, Lindsay England topped junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, and Jessica Smith bested junior Whitney Austin (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 for the Norse.
Brunsman and Gilmore defeated Loeys and Liang 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while England and Smith topped Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) 8-6 at No. 2. Crowe and Austin picked up a doubles point for Hopkins by defeating Kirkpatrick and Cunningham 8-4 at No. 3.
