Johns Hopkins Places Fifth at TPSC Invitational
GAMBIER, OH – Sophomore Anna Wisniewski grabbed a pair of second-place finishes to lead the Johns Hopkins women’s swim team on the final day of the Total Performance Sports Camps Invitational. The Blue Jays finished in fifth place with 892 points over the three-day invitational. Penn won the TPSC as the Quakers collected 2,735.5 points. Hopkins also posted eight NCAA provisional qualifying times on the final night.
Sophomore Courtney Cowan opened the third and final night with a 15th-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:01.14. Freshman Rabia Syed finished in 25th place with a time of 5:09.49 and junior Kristen Kaiser took 27th in 5:12.29. Freshman Emily Cheng followed with a 15th-place finish in the 200 Back as she touched in 20:08.14. Kaiser then took 17th with a time of 2:10.77 and sophomore Michelle Kim placed 20th in 2:18.76. Junior Ariana Waitkatvicz then finished in 22nd place, second in the C final, as she clocked in 2:10.97.
Wisniewski took second in the 100 Fly, touching in 55.37, the 10th fastest time in program history. Junior Abby Brown followed in fifth place (56.23) and classmate Shirley Chan placed seventh (56.63). All three times are provisional times. Freshman Elizabeth Duncan finished in 17th place as she touched in 57.93 and junior Lindsay Kriz placed 26th in 1:00.02. Sophomore Gwynnie LaMastra followed with a sixth-place finish in the 200 Breast. She clocked in at 2:19.64, the seventh fastest time in program history and a provisional time. Sophomore Sara Wujciak grabbed 12th place (2:24.94) and freshman Phi Nguyen placed 26th with a time of 2:43.16.
Next up was the 100 Free, and sophomore Lena Bless led a contingent of five Blue Jays with a 12th-place finish (53.37). Sophomore Lena DiPrizito then placed 19th in 54.74. Duncan grabbed 22nd place as she touched in 54.34, followed by Syed in 24th (54.53) and Kriz in 25th (54.57). Wisniewski earned another second-place finish in the 200 IM as she finished in 2:03.12, just 0.11 seconds off the school record and the third fastest time in program history. Sophomore Kaitlin Jones finished in eighth place with a time of 2:06.78 and Wujciak won the C final, finishing 21st overall, in 2:10.38.
Hopkins ended the invitational with a fourth-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Wisniewski, Jones, Cowan and Bless combined for a provisional time of 3:28.95. Wisniewski also posted a provisional time with her leadoff leg of 52.05.
