COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team fell, 187-67, at Maryland Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays, swimming their second straight dual meet against a Division I team, slips to 0-2 on the season. The meet was the season-opener for Maryland.
Hopkins opened with a fifth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay to open the meet. Sophomore Lindsey Kent (West Bend, WI/Homestead), sophomore Annie Tsay (Sacramento, CA/Mira Loma), sophomore Katherine Arnett (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) and freshman Eleanor Gardner (Smiths, Bermuda/Bermuda) swam the relay in 1:54.95. Freshman Kristen Ferriero (Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) then took fourth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:59.77. Kent followed with a fifth place finish in the 50 Back in 29.52.
Tsay took third in the 50 Breast in 31.70, while senior Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) took fifth in the 100 Fly in 1:02.41. Gardner placed fifth in the 50 Free (25.78) and in the 100 Free (55.24). Sophomore Margaret Spach (Niguel, CA/Aliso Niguel) finished in fourth in the 100 Back in 1:01.85. Tsay followed with a fourth place finish in the 100 Breast in 1:08. 51. In the 500 Free, sophomore Khristine Ghemigian (Oak Park, CA/Oak Park) placed third in 5:22.75. In the 50 Fly, Arnett placed fifth with a time of 27.92. Maryland swam exhibitions for the final two events.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 31 as the Blue Jays travel to Lancaster, PA to take on Franklin & Marshall. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
