MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team currently sits in ninth place at the 2009 NCAA Division III women's swimming and diving championships. The Blue Jays have totaled 97 points and sit just four points out of eighth place. Hopkins is gunning for the 11th top 10 finish in school history.

The Blue Jays got a sixth-place finish in the 800 free relay to fuel their efforts on the third day of the championships. The team of freshmen Khristine Ghemigian (Oak Park, CA/Oak Park) and Elizabeth Rogers (North Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) and seniors Elissa Stautner (Conroe, TX/Academy of Science and Technology) and Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) shattered the school record with a time of 7:36.05. The time is three full seconds better than the previous record of 7:39.05, which was set earlier this season.

Freshman Michele Palopoli (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Germantown Academy) earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 200 butterfly with a 15th-place finish as she clocked in at 2:07.06. Palopoli's time of 2:06.13 in the preliminaries ranks as the second-best time in school history.
