The Johns Hopkins women's swim team broke two more school records and picked up 43 points on day two of the NCAA Championships. The Blue Jays are now in ninth place with 69 points, with just 15 points separating JHU from sixth place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Kenyon remains in first place with 309 points.

Johns Hopkins opened with a 15th place finish in the 200 Free Relay with a finals time of 1:37.47. Swimming the relay were freshmen Elizabeth Rogers (North Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast), Khristine Ghemigian (Oak Park, CA/Oak Park), Annie Tsay (Sacramento, CA/Mira Loma) and sophomore Michele Palopoli (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Germantown Academy). In the prelims, the team swam a school record time of 1:36.69, besting the seven-year old school record of 1:36.90. Rogers swam a 24.04 opening leg in the prelims, the second fastest time in the 50 Free in program history.

Freshman Margaret Spach (Laguna Niguel, CA/Aliso Niguel) then finished in 15th place in the 400 IM with a finals time of 4:37.11. Her prelim time of 4:34.15 is a career best and the third fastest time in program history. Senior Sarah Andryauskas (Lexington, MA/Lexington) followed that with a sixth place in the 100 Fly with a time of 55.94. Her prelim time of 55.88 is the second fastest time in program history and she now owns the seven fastest times in school history.

Hopkins closed out the night with a seventh place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Freshman Tiffany Tembreull (Lino Lakes, MN/Circle Pines), Tsay, Andryauskas and Rogers swam a finals time of 3:52.18. The team's prelim time of 3:51.12 is a school record.

 

 

The NCAA Championships continue on Thursday, March 19 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Prelims are slated to begin at 10:00 am CST with finals scheduled for 5:30 pm CST.
