Atlanta, GA - Five Johns Hopkins women's swimmers qualified for the NCAA Championships last weekend as the Blue Jays competed in the Emory Invitational.

Sophomore Abiona Redwood (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew) qualified by finishing first in the 50 freestyle time trial in 24.61, while fellow sophomore Kristin Stepaniak (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) qualified by swimming the 200 breaststroke preliminaries in 2:24.03.

Sophomore Stephanie Leaman (Grosse Point Woods, MI/Grosse Point North) also qualified, as she won the 1650 freestyle in 17:30.82, while freshman Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) qualified by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.63. Freshman Kelly Robinson (Holden, MA/Worcester Academy) qualified in two events, as she won the 100 butterfly in 58.71 and finished second in the 200 butterfly preliminaries in 2:08.57.
 

 

Junior Diana Smirnova (Las Cruces, NM/Phillips Exeter Academy) won the 200 individual medley in 2:11.05, sophomore Kalei Walker (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest) took the 200 freestyle in 1:56.13, and freshman Mandy Schmidt (Austin, TX/LBJ) captured the 100 backstroke in 1:02.04.

Sophomore Jessica Chang (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished first in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries in 1:07.17 and third in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.61, while in the 400 individual medley junior Betsy Maragakes (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) was second in 4:46.91 and Leaman placed fourth in 4:56.58.

Sophomore Sida Liu (Phoenix, AZ/North Canyon) was second in 54.80 and freshman Ariana Reks (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) came in third in the 100 freestyle in 54.80, while in the 200 freestyle freshman Ashley Devonshire (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton) finished second in 1:58.17 and sophomore Katie Herbst (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) placed fourth in 1:59.39.

Junior Meghan Bullock (Phoenix, AZ/Phoenix Country Day) placed eighth in the 1650 freestyle in 18:26.82, while in the 200 butterfly preliminaries Smirnova was third in 2:11.14 and senior Emma Gregory (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) finished fourth in 2:11.67.

The Blue Jays will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships on March 11-13 in St. Louis, MO.
