ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - In its final meet of the season before the NCAA Championships, the Johns Hopkins women's swim team competed at the Seahawk Invitational on Saturday. Five swimmers posted NCAA provisional qualifying times and several set personal or season bests. Sophomore Meagan Heslin (Wyckoff, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) broke the school record in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:06.07.
Sophomore Reagan Cuddy (Auburn, NY/Auburn) swam a career-best time in the 50 Free, finishing in 27.50. While junior Taylor Mann (Branford, CT/Branford) turned in a season-best time in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:08.16. In the 200 Free, senior Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) knocked more than a second off her career best time, finishing in 1:55.84 with an NCAA provisional time. While Cuddy finished nearly two seconds faster than her previous best, clocking in at 2:07.38
Freshman Heidi Culver (Lakewood, CO/Green Mountain) turned in a provisional time, with her best time of the season, in the 200 Back. She clocked in at 2:06.07, followed by junior Robin Schaffer (Dublin, OH/Columbus School for Girls) with a time of 2:08.28, also a provisional time. In the 100 Free, Cuddy turned in a season-best time of 58.60. In the 200 Breast, freshman Meaghan Bresnahan (Lighthouse Point, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) posted a provisional time and knocked more than three seconds of her personal best, finishing in 2:25.03.
Heslin then had her record-breaking swim in the 200 Fly and qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championship. Junior Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) also turned in a career-best and provisional time, finishing in 2:06.51. And in the 100 Back, Schaffer turned in a time of 59.46 to qualify provisionally for the NCAAs in March.
Hopkins will spend the next few weeks preparing for the 2009 NCAA Championships, slated for March 18-21 in Minneapolis, MN.
