BLUE JAYS WIN 2006 BLUE GRASS MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Feb. 18, 2006 WOOSTER, OH - In the final day of competition, junior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) set a meet record, as the Blue Jays swam to the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championship. Hopkins finished with 664 points, ahead of second-place Wingate University with 591 points. The Blue Jays continued their strong swimming with a sweep of the 200 Back. Sophomore Erica Pakkala (Lititz, PA/Warwick) finished in first with a time of 2:07.30. It was her second first-place finish of the meet and her second NCAA Division III provisional time. Senior Katie Herbst (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) finished in second with a time of 2:08.66. Her time was also an NCAA III provisional time. Coming in third for the Jays was freshman Kate Hansen (Berkley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) in 2:10.37.
Foster's record-breaking swim came in the 200 Breast. She finished in 2:23.76. She not only broke the meet and the pool record, the time was also good for an NCAA III provisional qualification. Senior Jessica Chang (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished third in the event with a time of 2:28.48. The 400 Free relay team took second with a time of 3:37.42.
Senior Stephanie Leaman (Grosse Point Woods, MI/Grosse Point North) swam to a second place finish in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:03.58. Freshman Elissa Stautner (The Woodlands, TX/Oak Ridge) followed with a third place finish in a time of 18:20.95. Freshman Kristen Cunningham (North Potomac, MD) finished in second place in the 100 Free with a time of 53.94. The Blue Jays also took second and third place in the 200 Fly. Sophomore Stephanie Laperle (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) took second with an NCAA III provisional time of 2:09.76. Junior Kelly Robinson took third with a time of 2:10.57.
Savannah College of Art & Design finished in third in the women's championship with 565 points. In the combined team championships, Savannah took first place with 972.50 points. Johns Hopkins, which just competed in the women's championships, finished fifth overall. |
