BALTIMORE, MD - Recent Action The No. 7 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team had a historic week, defeating The College of New Jersey for the first time in program, history and capturing a win over Bryn Mawr, earning the right to host its third-consecutive Centennial Conference Tournament. The Blue Jays are 4-0 in Centennial postseason play when hosting the tournament. Traveling to Ewing, NJ last Wednesday, the Blue Jays were in search of their first ever upset of the TCNJ Lions. After 90 minutes of soccer, Hopkins reigned supreme, assembling its first win in 10 all-time contests against TCNJ. Junior goalkeeper Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) Freshman Leslie O'Brien (Huntington, NY/Huntington), fed by senior Lisa Irizarry (Yorktown Heights, NY/ Yorktown), poked a shot past the Lions' keeper and secured the first Hopkins victory against perennial power TCNJ. The goal was the first in her rookie season. On Saturday, the Blue Jays recorded the highest single-game goal total since September 1, scoring five in a battle with Bryn Mawr. In its 5-3 win, Hopkins clinched the right to host the 2008 Centennial Conference women's soccer Tournament and moved to 8-0-0 in conference play. At 8-0-0, the Blue Jays have built their best Centennial Conference regular season run since 2006, when they finished 10-0-0 in the league. In The Books Junior keeper Karen Guszkowski is all over the JHU record books this season. Her nine shutouts in 2008 ranks third all-time in the single-season record books. Guszkowski is seven saves from breaking into the top ten in single-season saves as well. The junior is on track to record the lowest goals against average in program history. Her 0.35 GAA to date tops Shannon O'Malley's 0.46 GAA in 2001. With just two regular season contests remaining in the season, Guszkowski could post the best goals against average at Hopkins in a 18-year program history. In the JHU career records, Guszkowski is tied for fifth all-time in career saves with 111. She is also third in career shutouts with 18. Her 0.46 GAA is ranked No. 1 in the career record books and she is poised to improve the number this season with just two games left in the regular season. The junior owns a .906 save percentage this season, the best in the Centennial Conference. She also has the best goals against average in the league (0.35) and the most shutouts (9) in the conference. What's Next? Freshman Erica Suter (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) will break into the top 15 in single-season points in the program record books with her next point. She is currently tied in the 16th spot with her 20 points in her rookie season. Suter is tied for first in the Centennial Conference in points this season (20) and goals (9). Up Next No. 7 Hopkins travels to Westminster, Md. today to take on the Green Terror of McDaniel College at 4 p.m. Hopkins is 13-4-0 all-time against McDaniel. The Blue Jays will host their final home regular season on Saturday, November 1. Hopkins will battle the Bears of Ursinus in the fight to stay perfect in league play for the year.
