BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins senior defender Sarah Gieszl (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier College Prep) has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Gieszl helped the Blue Jays to a 2-0 record last week.

Gieszl led the Johns Hopkins defense to shutout victories over Stevenson and Washington. The Hopkins defense allowed just 10 shots in the two contests. Gieszl also helped the Blue Jay offense by scoring the game-winning goal against Stevenson last Wednesday. Hopkins defense has held its opponents to just four goals in seven games and has recorded five shutout victories on the year.

Johns Hopkins, which is currently 6-1 (1-0 CC) and ranked eighth in the nation, returns to action on Wednesday, September 22 at St. Mary’s (Md.) for a non-conference tilt at 4 pm.
