Johns Hopkins Women's Soccer Weekly Notes
Sept. 9, 2008
BALTIMORE, MD - Complete Release in PDF Format Follow The Leader Head coach Leo Weil clinched his 195th career win at Johns Hopkins against Misericordia on September 3. Weil has the most victories (all opponents) among active Centennial Conference coaches. Fab Freshmen Freshmen Erica Suter (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) and Colleen Quinlan (Sykesville, MD/Marriots Ridge) didn’t hesitate to make an impact on the Blue Jay offense. Suter has scored three goals in just four games for Hopkins, proving that she has made the adjustment to intercollegiate athletics. Suter also has one assist, for a total of seven points so far this season. Quinlan recorded assists on two consecutive goals against Hamline University on September 1. She provided two fellow freshmen with the opportunity to score. Paulina Goodman (Sherman Oaks, CA/Van Nuys) buried a shot into the top right corner of the net with less than seven minutes to go, while Suter followed three minutes later with her second goal of the season. Player Of The Week Sophomore Jenn Paulucci (Manalapan, NJ/Freehold Boro) was selected as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player Of The Week on September 2 for her efforts against Oneonta State, Meredith and Hamline. Paulucci assisted Sara Tankard’s (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) goal, Hopkins’ first of the season, to lift the Blue Jays over Oneonta State, 1-0. None For You Johns Hopkins opened its season with four straight shutout wins, just the third time in program history that the Blue Jays have opened their season with four shutouts. Playing Keep-Away The Blue Jays and goalkeeper Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) (8 saves) have not allowed any of their opponents to score a goal and have allowed just 16 shots this season. The Hopkins defense held Hamline to zero shots and Misericordia to just three shots in 90 minutes. The Blue Jays own a combined 80-shot advantage over its opponents this season. JHU has compiled 11 goals in 2008 and owns a perfect 4-0 record. Persistent Assistance Junior Caitlin Moore (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) has been the helping hand for Hopkins this season. She notched back-to-back assists against Meredith College on Erin Stafford (Doylestown, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) and Natalie Held’s (Potomac, MD/Churchill) goals. Against Hamline, Moore dished to Stafford again, who sealed the deal for the Blue Jays’ first goal of the contest. Moore is tied for first with Sarah Reece (Swarthmore) and Courtney Anderson (Dickinson) for the most assists in the conference. We Are The Champions Hopkins defeated former national champion Oneonta State on August 29 and Meredith College on August 30 to claim the Roanoke Invitational Championship. The pair of wins gave the Blue Jays their first two shutouts to open the season.
