Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Molly Steele (Daleville, VA/North Cross) scored the only goal of the game to lift #11 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Championship game. The Blue Jays (17-2) claim their second straight conference championship and fifth overall, as they extended their win streak to nine straight. Hopkins is the first team to repeat as Centennial Conference Champions since Muhlenberg in 2000 and 2001 and tie Gettysburg for the most championships in conference history.

Swarthmore falls to 14-4-1 as the Garnet had a seven-game win streak snapped.

In the 35th minute, senior Kaitlin Giannetti (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) controlled a ball on the near side and crossed it to Steele, who tapped the ball, slipped inside a defender and one-timed a shot inside the far post past Swarthmore's Lauren Walker for her 10th goal of the year.

Swarthmore had its best opportunity in the 49th minute as freshman Katie Kanuka chipped one over Karen Guszkowski's (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) head and the ball hit the crossbar. Guszkowski made two saves to record her first career shutout, while Walker made four saves for the Garnet. The Blue Jays held a 17-8 advantage in shots.

With the win the Blue Jays advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and the fifth time in program history. The tournament bracket will be announced on Monday.
