Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team got a pair of second half goals to defeat visiting Dickinson in Centennial Conference action Tuesday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays post their sixth consecutive shutout to improve to 8-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference action. The Red Devils slip to 7-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Centennial with the loss.

The Blue Jays pressured the conference's stingiest defense from the start, but could not break through, despite outshooting the Red Devils 14-2 in the first half. Hopkins finally got on the 59th minute when junior Erin Stafford (Doylestown, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) pounced on a rebound. Junior Sara Tankard (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) collected a pass inside the Dickinson box, evaded several defenders and then rifled a shot from about seven yards out. Kailyn Hartmann got her left hand on the ball, deflecting it wide. But a wide-open Stafford ran onto the ball and buried it for her second of the year.

Junior Jessica Hnatiuk (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) gave the Blue Jays an insurance goal in the 81st minute with her first career goal. A Dickinson foul set up a Hopkins free kick about 30 yards out, directly in front of the goal. Hnatiuk stepped up and hit a hard shot, low to the ground that just snuck inside the left post.

Senior Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) and sophomore Kristen Redsun (Trabuco Canyon, CA/Santa Margarita) combined for three saves in holding the conference's most prolific offense scoreless. Guszkowski got the start in goal and played 35 minutes, making one save before leaving the game with an injury. Redsun replaced her and made two saves in preserving the shutout. Hartmann finished with six saves in the loss for the Red Devils.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 3 traveling to Haverford. The Centennial Conference game is set to start at 1:00 pm.
