BALTIMORE, MD - The eleventh ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team defeated Frostburg State, 5-0 on Wednesday night in the Blue Jays' home opener. Sophomore Molly Steele (Daleville, VA/North Cross) had a goal in each half as the Blue Jays improved to 5-1 on the season with the win.
Steele got things going in this one as she had a break-away from 30 yards out mid-way through the first half and punched it home for her first goal of the game and third goal of the year. Kerry Hamilton (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) started the game in net for the Blue Jays and was not forced to make a save as she played the first 90 minutes of the contest.
Steele connected for her second goal of the game just into the second half, this time off a cross from fellow sophomore Francesca Perretti (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames). Steele's goal was her fourth of the year and ties her with senior Kaitlin Giannetti (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) for the team lead in that category. Senior Jessie McKenzie (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) scored in the 61st minute, connecting off a rebound, making it 3-0 in favor of the hosts.
Jane O'Connor (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) scored her first career goal in the 78th minute of this game while Cassandra Vogel (Laurel Hollow, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) connected for her first goal of the year to round out the scoring in this one.
Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) saw time between the pipes in the second half of this game as she also did not face a shot and helped preserve the shutout.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 23rd when Hopkins host Muhlenberg in a Centennial Conference contest at 5 p.m.
