Johns Hopkins Records Third Straight Shutout in Home Opener
Sept. 1, 2008
BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team dominated on offense and defense to down Hamline 5-0 in the home opener. Head coach Leo Weil continues to close in on 200 career wins as today's victory was his 194th. In the first half, sophomore Erin Stafford recorded her second goal of the season off a pass through the middle from junior Caitlin Moore. Stafford was the only player to dent the scoreboard in the first half. Hopkins did not score again until the final 10 minutes of the game, when they poked home four goals in eight minutes. Hopkins was credited with its second goal when Jenn Paulucci crossed the ball and a Hamline header knocked it in for an own goal. Freshman Paulina Goodman scored her first collegiate goal less than a minute later. Goodman landed a strike into the top right corner of the goal off a pass from freshman Colleen Quinlan. Just three minutes later, freshman Erica Suter knocked in a shot from fifteen yards out after receiving a pass from Quinlan. Sophomore Sara Tankard drilled in her second career goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to close out the scoring. Suter passed from the right side to assist the goal. Karen Guszkowski didn't need to register a save to pick up the shutout, JHU's third straight. It marks just the fourth time in school history that the Blue Jays have recorded three straight shutouts to start the season and the first time since 2002.
Hopkins travels to Misericordia on Wednesday, September 3. The game is set for 7 p.m. |
