#3 Blue Jays Slide Past Skidmore
Aug. 31, 2012
EWING, NJ -- Kelly Baker knocked home a second half corner kick to lead the #3 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team past Skidmore 1-0 in Ewing, NJ Friday afternoon. After dictating the run of play in the first half, Hopkins (1-0-0) found its elusive goal 15 minutes into the second half. The Blue Jay defense then stymied Skidmore (0-1-0) the remainder of the match, holding the Thoroughbreds to just three second half shots. Hopkins goalkeeper, Meredith Maguire, saw little action on the afternoon, having to make only three saves in the victory. The senior netminder is tied for seventh all-time in program history with seven shutouts. The Blue Jays have won eight consecutive season-openers dating back to 2004. Additionally, Hopkins has not lost a regular season match since October 16, 2010 -- a streak spanning 30 games. Hopkins returns to action tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. against Rochester (NY). The Yellow Jackets finished 8-7-1 in 2011.
