BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team placed five players on the American Lacrosse Conference All-Conference Team on Tuesday as announced by the ALC Office. Leading the way are senior Angela Hughes (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) and sophomore Alyssa Kildare (Massapequa Park, NY/Farmingdale), who earned First Team Honors. Sophomores Colleen McCaffrey (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) and Candace Rossi (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) and freshman Cosette Larash (Crownsville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) were named to the Second Team. The five all-conference nods are tied for the most since the program moved to Division I in 1999, though Hopkins competed as an independent from 1999 to 2001.

Hughes earns First Team honors for the second straight season after earning Second Team honors in 2008. She made the move to the midfield this season after three seasons on defense and has scored a career high 16 goals and five assists. She also has 12 ground balls, six draw controls and has caused 13 turnovers in 2010. Hughes ranks eighth in school history in caused turnovers and 20th in draw controls.

A Second Team selection in 2009 as a rookie, Kildare is one of three sophomores to earn First Team honors. She leads the Blue Jays and ranks second in the conference and 26th in the nation with 1.75 caused turnovers per game (28 CT). Kildare also leads the team, ranks second in the ALC and 26th in nation in ground balls per game (42 GB). Her 28 caused turnovers so far this season are more than triple the number she had last season (9), while her 42 ground balls are more than double her total from last season (18). She is tied for second on the team in draw controls with 18, while she has also scored a goal from her defensive position.

McCaffrey earns Second Team honors for the second straight year after totaling career highs in goals (31), assists (11), points (42), draw controls (38) and caused turnovers (8). She already ranks in top 20 in school history in career goals, assists, points and draw controls. McCaffrey ranks second on the team in goals and points and is third in assists. She leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference in draw controls.

Rossi earns All-ALC honors for the first time after leading Hopkins in goals (34), assists (17) and points (51). She ranks 10th in the conference in assists. Her goal, assist and point totals this season have already surpassed her rookie season numbers, when she also led the team in goals (29) and points (33). Rossi's 51 points this season is the most by a Blue Jay since 2007. She already ranks in the top 15 in school history in points (84), goals (63), assists (21) and draw controls (50).

Larash also earns All-ALC honors for the first time, joining four other rookies on the All-ALC teams. She is the Blue Jays' first all-conference goalie since Anita Patibandla earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in 1998, when Hopkins was Division III. She is also just the second freshman goalie in school history to earn all-conference honors since 1984. On Feb. 20 at George Mason, Larash became the first freshman goalie to start the season opener for Hopkins since Patibandla on March 10, 1995. She ranks second in the ALC in goals against average (9.59), third in save percentage (.457) and tied for fifth in ground balls (32).

The 20th-ranked Blue Jays will travel to Columbus, OH this week for the 2010 ALC Tournament. Third-seeded Hopkins will face sixth-seeded Florida in the second quarterfinal on Thursday, May 6. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:30 pm at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State. The Blue Jays were picked to finish fifth in the ALC in a preseason poll of the conference's coaches, but finished the regular season third with a 3-2 record. The 10 overall wins so far this season are the most for Hopkins since 2007 when JHU went 12-7 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The three ALC wins are the most since for the Blue Jays since 2006, when they also went 3-2.
