BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior defender Brooke Lipinski (Phoenix, MD/Maryvale Prep) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her role in the Blue Jays upset win over 17th-ranked Ohio State on Sunday. It is Lipinski's first career honor from the ALC. Hopkins' win over Ohio State clinched the three seed in this weekend's ALC Tournament in Columbus, OH.

Lipinski had a career-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Buckeyes in a crucial win for the Blue Jays. She anchored a defense that held Ohio State to just six second-half shots and nearly seven goals below its season average. With Hopkins leading by just one goal, Lipinski caused a turnover in the Jays' defensive end with just over five minutes to play, giving Hopkins a critical possession as JHU was able to run out the clock and secure the win.

Hopkins will travel to Ohio State this week for the 2010 ALC Tournament. JHU will face off against sixth-seeded Florida in the second quarterfinal game on Thursday. Ohio State and Penn State will meet in the first quarterfinal. Opening draw for the Blue Jays' game is slated for 5:30 pm.
