Key Named a Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee
April 18, 2006 BALTIMORE, MD - Hopkins junior attacker Mary Key (Stevensville, MD/St. Mary's) has been named a nominee to the Tewaaraton Trophy. The Tewaaraton Award Foundation narrowed its watch list down to a list of 21 Division I Women's Lacrosse Players. The Tewaaraton Trophy is given annually to the top male and female player in the nation. The Blue Jays travel across the state line to face Delaware on Wednesday, April 19. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
Key leads the Blue Jays in goals, assists and points. She also leads the nation in points per game and ranks fourth in assists and fifth in goals per game. In 10 games, she has tallied 64 points on 38 goals and 26 assists. On March 26 she became just the fourth player since Johns Hopkins moved to Division I in 1999 to reach the 200 career point mark. She currently sits in second in the school's Division I history with 225 points. Key ranks third in career goals with 145 and second in assists with 80. She is just 28 points shy of tying Jamie Larrimore's record of 253. Key is just 11 assists shy of Erin Wellner's career record of 91 and 53 goals shy of Larrimore's record of 198. She is on pace to break the single season records for goals (59), assists (32) and points (87).
The list of 21 nominees will be narrowed to five finalists for the Trophy to be presented on June 1. The 21 nominees for the women's award are:
