A Look Back: Johns Hopkins went 2-1 on the week with wins over Centennial Conference opponents Dickinson and Haverford, before suffering its first loss of the season to #6 The College of New Jersey. The Blue Jays got four goals from senior Emily Miller, including the first three of the day, as they held off an upset-minded Red Devils team on Wednesday, 6-3. On Saturday, Hopkins scored a pair of goals in each half as the team rolled to a 4-0 shutout of visiting Haverford. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Blue Jays and the second for junior goalie Sophia Tieu. Hopkins ran into a tough TCNJ team on Sunday as the visiting Lions snapped the Blue Jays 11-game season-opening win streak in a 3-0 loss. It was the first home loss for Hopkins since Oct. 8, 2007 - a stretch of seven consecutive games. I'm Honored: Senior Emily Miller was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. The senior leads the conference in points (44) and goals (21). Miller led the Blue Jays to a 2-1 week last week with six goals as she broke the school single-season goals record (19). The Week Ahead: After playing five games in a nine-day span, Johns Hopkins has it relatively easy this week with just one game on the schedule. The Blue Jays have the week to prepare for the Washington College Shorewomen, who visit Homewood Field on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's game will be the 25th meeting between Hopkins and Washington with the Blue Jays leading the series 15-9. JHU has won the last two meetings with Washington. On a Roll: Johns Hopkins opened the season with 11 consecutive wins for the first time in program history. That streak came to end on Sunday however, in a 3-0 loss to #6 TCNJ. The streak smashed the previous school record for consecutive wins to start the season of three (1992, 1999, 2007). Strength Of Schedule: The Blue Jays have another strong schedule in store for themselves this season. Of Hopkins' 18 opponents in 2008, five were ranked in the NFHCA Preseason Poll, including three in the top five while Gettysburg has since climbed into the top 20. Hopkins has now faced five ranked opponents so far this season and is 4-1 in those games. Record Breaker: Senior Emily Miller added yet another record to her impressive resume on Saturday. She scored two goals in the Blue Jays win over the Fords to bring her season total to 21. Her first of the day broke the single-season scoring record - held by Miller and Beth Cariello `94. In addition to the single-season goals record, she also holds school records for career goals (56), career points (129) and single-season points (48). In Centennial Conference history, Miller is tied for seventh in career goals and seventh in career points. In addition, her 21 goals to date this season, are tied for sixth most in conference history. Climbing the Ranks: Two Blue Jays are climbing the ranks of the Johns Hopkins record book, in addition to Miller. Senior Leah Horton ranks second with 28 career assists, just one shy of Amy Bruschi's record of 29. She also ranks seventh with 72 career points. Her 28 career assists are tied for the fifth most in Centennial Conference history. Senior Adair Landy is tied for fourth with 82 career points. She also ranks sixth in career goals (30) and third in career assists (22). Junior Andrea Vandersall has also jumped into the top-25 this season in career points and goals. She enters this week's action with 46 career points (T-18th) and 17 career goals (T-19th). Career Highs: Forward Andrea Vandersall is in the midst of her best season yet. Just 12 games into the season, the junior has matched her career-high in goals (7) and surpassed her career-highs in assists (7) and points (21). In fact, she has nearly doubled her career points total. Vandersall entered the season with 25 career points and enters this week's action with 46 career points. Home Sweet Home: After playing five consecutive games on the road to open the season, Hopkins has played five of the last seven in the friendly confines of Homewood Field. The Blue Jays are 5-1 at home and 6-0 on the road. In fact, prior to Hopkins first home game on Sept. 17, the Blue Jays had played eight straight away from home, dating back to last season. Hopkins went 6-2 during that stretch. Home Away From Home: In the last two seasons, Hopkins has played six games at nearby Stevenson University. In those six games, the Blue Jays went 6-0 and outscored their opponents 25-7. In the Ranks: JHU spent the entire 2007 season ranked in the NFHCA's top 20 and entered the 2008 season ranked 11th in the preseason poll. After suffering its first loss of the season, Hopkins dropped from the #3 spot (its highest ever) to #6 with 452 points. The Blue Jays have now spent 16 consecutive weeks in the top 20 - the longest streak in program history. At the Helm:
Head coach Megan C. Fraser is the all-time winningest coach in program history with a record of 145-87 (.625). She is also the winningest coach in Centennial Conference history in all games (145), conference games (77) and conference tournament games (9).
