March 13, 2009

BALTIMORE, MD - Ten Johns Hopkins field hockey players have been named to the 2008 NFHCA National Academic Squad. Hopkins has put at least 10 players on the national academic team in each of the last three years. In addition, Hopkins earned the team award for posting a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. This marks the fifth straight year that the Blue Jays have received the team award.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year. Since 2001, Blue Jays have combined to earn All-Academic honors from the NFHCA 67 times.

Leading the way for the Blue Jays is senior midfielder Meghan Marshall (Scituate, MA/Scituate), who earns the honor for the fourth straight year. While, senior forward Katie Wong (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake) takes the honor for the third time and senior back Leah Horton (Wayne, PA/Upper Merion Area) for the second time.

Juniors Brittany Bland (Littleton, CO/Colorado Academy), Catie Farrow (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon), Meaghan Malloy (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) and Chantal Serle (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy) all earn the honor for the third time. While junior Andrea Vandersall (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) and sophomore Sydney Greenberg (Longmeadow, MA/Suffield Academy) takes home the honor for the second straight season. Sophomore Ariana Branchini (Old Lyme, CT/Choate) earns the honor for the first time in her career.
