JHU Women's Fencing Team Wins Five At Northwestern Duals Jan. 17, 2003 Evanston, IL - The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team won five of 11 duals at the Northwestern Invitational last weekend. The Blue Jays defeated Detroit, 22-5, and Lawrence, 23-4, on Saturday. Hopkins fell to Wayne State, 14-13, Michigan, 14-13, Northwestern, 19-8, and Ohio State, 25-2, on the first day of the invitational. Hopkins defeated Cleveland State, 23-4, Michigan State, 15-12, and Fairleigh Dickinson, 14-13, on Sunday, while falling to North Carolina, 18-9, and Temple, 21-6. The JHU foil squad finished the weekend with a 59-40 record, while the sabre and epee teams each went 44-55. The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, January 25, when Hopkins hosts Virginia Tech, James Madison, Virginia, Drew, and Haverford in the White Athletic Center.
