JHU Women's Fencers Split 12 Duals At Northwestern Tournament Jan. 16, 2002 Evanston, IL - The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team went 6-6 at the Northwestern Tournament this past weekend. The Blue Jays opened play Saturday with a 19-8 win over Detroit-Mercy and, following a 19-8 defeat to Michigan, squeaked past Wayne State, 14-13. Hopkins then lost at Northwestern, 20-7, and Ohio State, 18-9, but finished the day with a 20-7 win over Lawrence. JHU opened Sunday's action with two losses, falling to Temple, 18-9, and to Notre Dame, 22-5, but rebounded to defeat Michigan State, 16-11. Hopkins lost to North Carolina, 15-12, but finished the weekend by beating Cleveland State, 18-9, and Fairleigh Dickinson, 17-10. Both the JHU sabre and epee squads finished 52-56 during the weekend, while the foil team went 49-59. The women's fencing team returns to action on January 26 when Hopkins hosts Haverford, James Madison, and Drew.
