State College, PA - Senior Christina Giblin (Toronto, Canada/Phillips Exeter Academy) placed 17th in the foil to lead the Johns Hopkins women's fencing team Sunday at the 31st Annual M. Garret Penn State Open.

Freshman Joanna Kochaniak (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) finished 28th in the foil, while sophomore Liz Ordun (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) was 31st and senior Susan Park (Baltimore, MD/Roch Raven) placed 37th.

Senior Georgiana Lee (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) led the Blue Jays in the sabre by finishing 19th, while sophomore Ann Kim (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) was 23rd. Freshman Sarah Smilow (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) finished 29th in the sabre, and freshman Kimberly Strazdas (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) placed in 36th.
 

 

Junior Caroline Grey (Tiburon, CA/San Francisco University) finished a team-best 26th in the epee, while sophomore Alexia Robinson (Bronx, NY/Fieldston) placed 29th. Sophomore Jeannette Alvarez (Pomona, NY/Immaculate Heart Academy) was 38th, while Janani Ramprasad finished 41st.

Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, December 7, when the Blue Jays participate in the NIWFA Invitational in Madison, NJ.
