PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman Erica Hartman and sophomore Michelle Gutierrez placed 13th and 22nd out of 70 saber fencers, sophomore Cindy Liu finished 22nd out of 75 in epee, and freshman Grace Fried placed 25th of 73 foilists to lead the Johns Hopkins women's fencing team at the Temple Open on Saturday.

The Blue Jays' top overall finish came by Hartman in saber, where she finished 13th. Haverford's Halli Melnitsky won the event, while Hopkins' Gutierrez placed 22nd and freshman Alla Brafman finished 46th.

In epee, Liu placed 22nd and seniors Katherine Dunne and Cathy Gallagher finished 46th and 47th respectively for Hopkins. Penn State's Andrea Wine captured the epee title.

Fried finished 25th and junior Joanna Kochaniak placed 34th in the foil competition, which was won by Penn's Abby Emerson.
