Hackensack, NJ - The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team recorded 71 wins to finish in second place out of 14 schools at the NIWFA Championships Sunday on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The Blue Jay sabre team of sophomore Kate Dunne (Beacon, NY/Beacon), sophomore Ann Kim (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and freshman Sarah Smilow (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) finished third with 27 wins, while the foil squad of senior Christina Giblin (Toronto, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy), sophomore Liz Ordun (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and senior Susan Park (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) was also third with 26 wins. The JHU epee team of senior Georgiana Lee (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale), sophomore Cathy Gallagher (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) and freshman Catherine Chen (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista) finished fourth with 18 wins.
 

 

Temple won the championship with 87 total victories, while Hopkins picked up the West Point Trophy as the runner-up at the championships and also earned and Division III Trophy.

Giblin led Hopkins by finishing second in the individual foil final to earn all-conference honors, while Ordun was 12th and Park placed 13th. Smilow, who also was named all-conference, was fourth in the individual sabre final, while Dunne finished ninth and Kim came in 14th.

Lee who was named an Academic All-American at the championships, finished ninth in the individual epee final.

Hopkins will compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships this Saturday and Sunday in Madison, NJ.
