MEDFORD, MA - The Johns Hopkins University Women's Fencing team finished seventh overall at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association Championships Saturday. Freshman Grace Fried (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) finished sixth in the Individual Foil Championship.

Hopkins best finish came in the Sabre, where the Jays took fifth overall. Hopkins finished sixth in the Epee and eighth in the Foil.

Fried finished third in the "A" Strip of the Foil and sixth overall. In the "B" Strip, senior Liz Ordun (Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) finished 10th and junior Joanna Kochaniak (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) finished third in the "C" Strip.

Senior Cathy Gallagher (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) placed sixth in the "A" Strip of the Epee. She finished 10th overall in the Epee Individual Championship. Senior Katherine Dunne (Beacon, NY/Beacon) placed 11th in the "B" Strip. In the "C" Strip, sophomore Cindy Liu (Walnut, Ca/Walnut) took second and finished 13th overall in the individual championships.

In the Sabre, freshman Erica Hartmann (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair) finished eighth in the "A" Strip. She finished 12th overall in the individual championship. Junior Sarah Smilow (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) took fifth in the "B" Strip. And freshman Alla Brafman (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) place sixth in the "C" Strip.
