Caitlin Hurst Named CRCA Division III All-American June 12, 2003 Ithaca, NY - Johns Hopkins women's crew member Caitlin Hurst (Fort Collins, CO/Pourie) was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III All-America First Team, the organization announced on May 22. Hurst, a junior, was a key member of the JHU varsity women's four, which won the grand finals at the South Eastern Regional Collegiate Sprints, Knecht Cup, and Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints this season. The boat finished third at the Occoquan Sprints, Murphy Cup, and Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships, and placed fourth in the grand final at the Dad Vail Regatta. Student-athletes were selected by the CRCA based on strength of schedule, regular season record, post-season regatta results, nomination rank, coach's comments and a 2,000-meter erg score. Additionally, senior Sharon Betz (Bedford, MA/Bedford), junior Allison McNickle (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook), and sophomore Ariel Lyons-Warren (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) were named CRCA National Scholar Athletes. Betz, an electrical engineeering major, was a rower while Lyons-Warren, a neuroscience major, was a coxswain on the women's varsity four. McNickle, a biology major, was a member of the women's pair which finished fourth at the Occoquan Sprints and the Mid-Atlantic Championships and advanced to the semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta. CRCA National Scholar-Athletes must be sophomores, juniors or seniors who have rowed in at least 75 percent of their school's varsity races and maintained a grade point average of at least 3.5.
