Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins women's crew members Allison McNickle, Elizabeth Baron, J. Dawn Waters, Nancy Tulathimutte, and Sharon Betz were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athletes, the CRCA announced Tuesday.

The five Blue Jays were named to the Division III team, comprised of 45 rowers. McNickle (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook) has a 3.56 GPA in Biology, Baron (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) has a 3.51 in Biology, Waters (Sugar Land, TX/Calhoun) has a 3.83 in Mathematics, Tulathimutte (South Hadley, MA/MacDuffie School) has a 3.61 in Biology/French, and Betz (Bedford, MA/Bedford) has a 3.91 in Electrical English/Math.

The National Scholar-Athlete award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains. To qualify student-athletes must meet the eligibility rules of their institutions, participate in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, participate in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat, have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the season's fall semester, and have a head coach who is in good standing of the CRCA.

93 Division I student-athletes and 22 Division II student-athletes also received the award.
