York, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's varsity four, men's pair and women's varsity four each won their races as the Blue Jay men's and women's crew teams competed in the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints Saturday at Pinchot State Park.

The JHU men's varsity four of sophomore Lukasz Bugaj (Kalamazoo, MI/Portage Northern), freshman Wesley Fredericks (New Canann, CT/New Canaan), junior Dave Small (Leominster, MA/Groton), senior Derek Davies (Elma, NY/St. Joe's Collegiate Institute) and senior coxswain Terry Dean (Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine) finished in 7:21.6, ahead of Richard Stockton in 7:36.13 and Washington College in 7:51.63.

The men's pair of Small and Davies won its race in 7:25.7, while Washington College finished second in 7:36.7. Senior Michael Walsh (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI Catholic) won the men's single in 8:28.5, while senior Pat Mason (Milford, CT/Fairfield Prep) came in second in 8:35.59. The Blue Jay men's novice four of Erik Anderson, Tim Park, Bugaj, and freshman coxswain Rachel Raskob (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) finished second in 7:26.13, behind Washington College in 7:07.1.

The men's novice eight of freshman Steven Flores (McAllen, TX/The Science Academy), freshman Barry Tong (Napa, CA/Vintage), freshman Greg Kearns (Norristown, PA/St. Paul's), freshman Teddy Drivas (New York City, NY/Stuyvesant), Bobby Mattina, Fredericks, Bugaj, sophomore Matt Hart (Tampa, FL/Berkeley Prep) and senior coxswain Michael Vu (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) placed third in 6:28.7, behind the RIT "A" boat in 6:22.5 and the RIT "B" boat in 6:25.48.
 

 

The JHU women's varsity four "A" boat of freshman Laura DeMare (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield), sophomore Angela Ko (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North), junior Caroline Hookway (West Boylston, MA/Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science), senior Caitlin Hurst (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) and freshman coxswain Virginia Pearson (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto) won its event in 7:41.7, while Ithaca placed second in 7:47.78. The Hopkins "B" boat of sophomore Renee Egusa (Westport, CT/Staples), sophomore Payal Ghosh (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury), senior Allison McNickle (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook), sophomore Eleanor Glifort (Chugiak, AK/Chugiak) and junior coxswain Ariel Lyons-Warren (St. Louis, MO/Ladue) came in third in 8:01.15, while the Richard Stockton "A" boat was fourth in 8:05.78 and the Richard Stockton "B" boat was fifth in 8:51.86.

The women's pair of Hurst and Hookway was the only boat in the event and finished in 8:25.7.

The Blue Jays return to action on Sunday, May 2 when Hopkins competes in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championships in Lorton, VA.
