Camden, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's and women's crew teams competed in the Knecht Cup on Saturday, April 17.

The Blue Jay men's novice eight was the lone Hopkins boat to win its race, as the team of sophomore David Chiou (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax), sophomore Sean Cheng (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport), Erik Anderson, Tim Park, freshman Steven Flores (McAllen, TX/The Science Academy), freshman Teddy Drivas (New York City, NY/Stuyvesant), freshman Lukasz Bugaj (Kalamazoo, MI/Portage Northern), sophomore Matt Hart (Tampa, FL/Berkeley Prep) and senior coxswain Michael Vu (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) finished ahead of Rutgers-Camden, USMMA, Mary Washington, NYU and Susquehanna.
 

 

The men's lightweight four of senior Michael Walsh (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI Catholic), sophomore Peter Ryan (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion), senior Pat Mason (Milford, CT/Fairfield Prep), senior Derek Davies (Elma, NY/St. Joe's Collegiate Institute) and senior coxswain Terry Dean (Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine) placed fifth in its race in 7:50.4. Army won the final in 7:13.7, followed by Washington College in 7:21.6, Buffalo in 7:29.5, Pittsburgh in 7:37.7, Hopkins and Delaware in 7:55.3.

The men's varsity four of Bujag, junior Dave Small (Leominster, MA/Groton), Robert Mattina, freshman Wesley Fredericks (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and coxswain Rachel Raskob (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) finished sixth in 7:36.0. New York Maritime took the event in 6:58.0, followed by Geneseo in 6:58.4, Mercyhurst in 6:59.0, Washington College in 7:14.1, Rutgers-Camden in 7:24.0 and the Blue Jays.

The JHU women's varsity pair of junior Caroline Hookway (West Boylston, MA/Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science) and senior Caitlin Hurst (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) placed third in 8:42.8, behind the UMass "A" boat in 8:14.0 and the UMass "B" boat in 8:32.9. Pittsburgh came in fourth in 8:44.8, followed by Stony Brook in 9:00.3 and Tulsa.

The women's lightweight four of sophomore Renee Egusa (Westport, CT/Staples), freshman Theresa Keating (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow), senior Allison McNickle (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook), sophomore Eleanor Glifort (Chugiak, AK/Chugiak) and junior coxswain Ariel Lyons-Warren (St. Louis, MO/Ladue) also finished third in its race in 8:27.6. MIT "B" won the event in 8:13.0, ahead of UMass in 8:25.8, Hopkins, Princeton "B" in 7:30.1, Lafayette in 8:44.1, and MIT "A" in 9:02.2.
