Hopkins Crew Teams Compete At Murphy Cup April 22, 2002
Philadelphia, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's varsity four rowed to a strong third place finish and the men's novice four also advanced to its final to lead the Blue Jay men's and women's crew teams at the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. The varsity four finished second in its heat in 6:52.66, placing behind only Pittsburgh and ahead of Bucknell and Hofstra. The Blue Jays improved their time to 6:52.16 to finish third in the final, behind only two squads from Temple that finished in 6:41.20 and 6:43.54. The JHU novice four finished third in its heat in 7:20.44 to advance to the final, where it placed fifth in 7:30.02.Temple also placed first in the novice final in 6:45.49, ahead of Lehigh (7:08.98), Bucknell (7:19.23), Pittsburgh (7:27.27), and Hopkins. The men's pair rowed to a fourth place finish in its event, finishing in 7:30.83 behind LaSalle (7:01.10), Pittsburgh (7:10.43), and Rochester (7:18.08). Both of the JHU women's boats failed to advance to the afternoon finals. The women's varsity four finished fifth in its heat in 8:18.95, behind Dowling (7:33.70), Villanova (7:36.47), Pittsburgh (6:59.42), and Miami (7:53.66). The varsity eight placed sixth in 7:06.63 behind Lehigh (6:39.40), Washington College (6:46.80), Drake (6:48.47), Temple (6:50.61), and St. Joseph's (6:51.64). Both Hopkins crew teams return to action on Saturday, April 28, for the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints.
