SUMMERTON, SC - The Johns Hopkins women's crew team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday with the Cooper River Sprints in Summerton, SC. Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Blue Jays host the annual Caspersen Cup in Baltimore.

Hopkins opened the day with a second place finish in the Varsity Eight. Sophomore Beth Simmonds (Arlington, VA/Yorktown) served as coxswain while senior Vanessa Damm (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) sat stroke. Senior Rebecca Williamson (Burlington, Ontario/Hillfield Strathallan) sat in the seven seat, with freshman Elizabeth Carr (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) sat in the six seat and sophomore Pia Heilmann (Coppell, TX/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)) sat in the five seat. Junior Uejin Kim (Houston, TX/Stratford) sat in the four seat, with senior Amelia Whitman (Galesville, MD) in the three seat, senior Madison West (New Britain, CT/Hotchkiss) in the two seat and freshman Adali Martinez (San Diego, CA/San Diego High School of International Studies) was in the bow.

The women's varsity four then finished second with a time of 9:08. Simmonds once again served as coxswain and Damm sat stroke. Williamson was in the three seat, while West sat in the two seat and Whitman was in the bow.
