Feb. 24, 2009

LANCASTER, PA - Sophomore Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) and senior Kristin Phillips (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) of the Johns Hopkins women's basketball earned All-Centennial Conference honors as announced by the Centennial Conference office Tuesday in Lancaster, PA.

Burton finished sixth in the Centennial Conference with 15.1 points per game and was of three sophomores named First Team All-Centennial. The sophomore led JHU in scoring in 15 games this season. Burton had a streak of five games where she scored 20 points or more, the first player to do so in the last seven years (Kathy Darling, 2002). Burton posted six double-doubles on the season and led the conference in field goal percentage for the majority if the season, ranking as high as eighth nationally. The Long Valley, NJ native led the steal in blocks (17) and steals (45). Her First Team All-Centennial selection marks her first career all-conference honor.

Phillips earned All-Centennial Honorable Mention accolades after averaging 10.9 rebounds and 11.7 points per game. She ranked second in the conference in boards per game (10.9) and 18th in scoring. The senior led the Blue Jays in rebounding in 18 games on the year. Phillips had the best game of her career at Franklin & Marshall this season, in the midst of a six-game win streak and tipped a two-point contest in Johns Hopkins' favor, notching two free throws with seven seconds remaining to finish with 27 points and 15 rebounds, both season-highs for JHU. Her 15 3-pointers this season ranked third on the team and she was second on the squad in both steals (33) and blocked shots (12).

Johns Hopkins has the most First Team All-Centennial selections in the history of the league with 17.

The Blue Jays are the No. 3 seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The tournament will take place at Muhlenberg on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1. Hopkins will face off against Franklin & Marshall for the third time this season at approximately 3 p.m., 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal contest.
