BALTIMORE, MD -

The Johns Hopkins women's basketball crosses the Bay Bridge on Saturday to battle against Centennial rival Washington in the final game of the 2008-09 regular season. The Blue Jays have claimed a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2006, but await their opponent. Muhlenberg has clinched the top seed in the tournament and five more teams will hang in limbo until Saturday's games have been decided.

The Opposition

Washington College is currently 10-14 on the season and have won just one of its last six games. Jessica Jamrogowicz broke Washington's single-season assist record after notching seven against Swarthmore. Jamrogowicz tied her own single-game record of 12 assists against McDaniel last week and is the only Centennial Conference player ever to average more than six per game.

Sally O'Donnell also tied a single-game record with her seven blocked shots against Haverford last week. Jane O'Donnell enters Saturday's contest needing just 13 points to reach the 1,000 point mark for her career.

Inside The Series

Johns Hopkins is 21-0 all-time against Washington since the start of the series in 1993. In the last meeting between the two teams, JHU defeated the Shorewomen, 73-56, igniting a six-game Centennial Conference win streak.

Sharp Shooter

Freshman Chantel Mattiola hit four 3-pointers against Bryn Mawr on Wednesday, the most by any Hopkins player this season. She also drained a jumper in the lane in the second half to complete a 5-of-5 performance from the floor, becoming the only Blue Jay this season to claim a perfect field goal percentage.

Her four shots from behind the arc are the most by any JHU player in a single game this season.

Comebacks

Hopkins has made it happen at the right time in 2009. After a 1-7 start, the Blue Jays have won 12 of their last 16 games to put themselves into the Centennial Conference Tournament. Hopkins started the new year with an 0-2 Centennial Conference record but has improved to 11-6 in the league to push its way into the postseason. JHU has not been part of the Centennial Tournament since 2006.

The Blue Jays tied their largest second-half comeback of the season against Muhlenberg on Saturday, scoring 40 of their 54 points in the second half. Hopkins also scored 40 second-half points against Washington on January 28.

JHU held the Mules to their lowest point total (63) in the last 10 games. The Blue Jays also kept Muhlenberg below its average of 5.5 3-pointers per game, allowing just one in 16 attempts. Hopkins forced the Mules into 6.3% shooting from beyond the arc, a season-low for Muhlenberg.

Dynamic Duo

The senior-sophomore combo of Kristin Phillips and Lyndsay Burton have combined to lead JHU is scoring in 20 games. Both rank in the top 20 in scoring in the Centennial Conference (Burton (6), Phillips (T-16)).

Burton has posted six double-doubles, while Phillips has tallied 10. Phillips has scored in double-figures in 15 games this season and Burton has had more than 10 points in 20 games.

Hot Shot

Lyndsay Burton has the top field goal percentage in the Centennial Conference (.571) after hitting160-of-280 attempts this season. Burton ranks 16th nationally as of February 15. She is also ranked sixth in scoring in the Centennial Conference (15.4). Burton needs just three points to reach the 600 point mark for her career.

Burton scored 20 or more points in five straight games in January. Burton is the first player to score 20 points or more in five consecutive games since Kathy Darling in 2002. Darling had a streak of six games bridging the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons with 20 or more points. Burton has scored 20 points or more points in seven games this season.

Cleaning the Glass

Kristin Phillips leads the Blue Jays with 10.9 rebounds per game, the 34th-best in the country (as of 2/15/09) and ranks second in the Centennial Conference. Phillips moved into fifth all-time in Johns Hopkins history with her eight rebounds against the Mules. She has pulled down 731 career rebounds.

Phillips is one of just six players in JHU history to amass more than 700 points and 700 rebounds. The senior needs just three points to move into 17th all-time in scoring and currently has 767 career points.

Phillips ranks first in the conference in offensive rebounds (5.25 per game)

Downtown

Senior Caitlin Sloane notched the 100th 3-pointer of her career against Haverford on February 7. She has hit 104 shots from beyond the arc in her career and is shooting .360 from 3-point range this season. Sloane is now fourth all-time at Johns Hopkins in 3-pointers made with 107.

She is fifth-best in the Centennial Conference with a .360 3-point percentage and eighth in 3-point field goals made (35). The senior shot .750 from beyond the arc against Bryn Mawr on February 18 with a 3-of-4 outing.

Helper

Freshman Chantel Mattiola has recorded 49 assists so far this season, the most by a freshman at Johns Hopkins since Ashley Felix (60) in 2001-02.

Accolades

Senior Kristin Phillips earned Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors on Feburary 9 for her superior play against Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson and Haverford. Phillips posted a career-high 27 points and 15 rebounds against the Diplomats on the road to help Johns Hopkins to a two-point victory.

Milestones

Head coach Nancy Funk reached the 400-win mark at Johns Hopkins on February 18 after a win over Bryn Mawr. Funk currently has 526 career wins, which includes her tenure at Messiah prior to coming to Hopkins.

Funk is the all-time winningest coach in Centennial Conference history and entered the 2008-09 season ranked 10th all-time in NCAA Division III coaching history with 513 victories.
