BALTIMORE, MD - Despite injuries and a youth-filled roster, the Johns Hopkins men's cross country team fought through 2008 to finish third at the Centennial Conference championship and an eighth place finish at the Mideast Regional. Hopkins welcomed two freshmen into its top seven group in a season that would see three different leaders emerge in just seven races (Steve Tobochnik, Dave Sigmon, Geoff Nunns).

The Blue Jays started off the year at the Baltimore Metro Invitational on September 5 with a first-place team finish. Sophomore Steve Tobochnik finished fifth to lead JHU.

Hopkins went on to place third at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational, finishing behind Dickinson and Carnegie Mellon. The Blue Jays posted back-to-back fifth place showings as a team at the Colonial Inter Regional Challenge and the Disney Classic before making a comeback at the Gettysburg Invitational.

JHU won the Gettysburg Invitational by narrow margin over the host Bullets. The Blue Jays defeated four Centennial Conference opponents to send them into the conference championship with momentum.

After facing adversity mid-season with Tobochnik out with an injury, Hopkins didn't show signs of weakness, assembling its best team performances in the postseason. The Blue Jays finished third at the Centennial championship two weeks later behind Dickinson and Haverford.

Hopkins would go on to finish eighth at the Mideast Regional as Brian Rooney earned All-Freshman honors.

The Blue Jays will return six of their top seven runners in 2009, three of which led the team in at least one race this season.
