Swarthmore Men Take First in Blue Jay Invitational

TIMONIUM, MD - On a rain-soaked Friday afternoon, Swarthmore placed four runners in the top 20 to win the Blue Jay Invitational men's cross country event, hosted by Johns Hopkins University at Oregon Ridge Park. Vernon Chaplin and Ross Weller of Swarthmore both finshed in the top 10, helping send the Garnet Tide to the team title. Coppin State's Anthony Littlejohn took the individual title, pacing the field of 162 by finishing the 8k course in 26:43. The Eagles placed 11th overall in the event. Five Centennial Conference schools finished in the top 10 of the event, tuning up for the conference championships to be held at Oregon Ridge on October 29. Maryland-Baltimore County was tops among Division I teams, with a sixth-place finish. For host Johns Hopkins, Patrick Brandon finished the course in 27:59, to claim ninth. Overall, the Blue Jays finished fourth, placing seven runners among the top 50.
