Hopkins Takes Fifth Straight Baltimore Metro Championship
Sept. 5, 2008 BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team turned Friday's Baltimore Metro Invitational into a one-team race as the Blue Jays took the top five spots to easily claim the team title for the fifth consecutive year. Several non-metro teams also competed in the race, which took place at Oregon Ridge and was scored twice - once including all teams and once with just the metro teams. Binghamton claimed the top four individual spots to win the overall event. The attached results include the scoring for all teams.
Sophomore Steve Tobochnik (Kalamazoo, MI/Loy Norrix) placed fifth overall and first among metro runners to pace the Blue Jay pack at the front of the race. Tobochnik's time of 15:46 was 19 seconds better than teammate David Sigmon (Big Harbor, WA/Peninsula), who clocked in at 16:05 and was second among metro runners (8th overall).
A pair of freshmen and a junior rounded out the top five for the Blue Jays to give them the clean sweep at the top of the metro scoring chart. Freshman Mickey Bosellino (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) led the three-man pack as he finished with a time of 16:17, just one second ahead of junior Noah Jampol (Waban, MA/Newton North). Fellow freshman Brian Rooney (Arlington, VA/St. Albans) was just four seconds behind Jampol (16:22) to close out the scorers for the Blue Jays.
Among the teams the Blue Jays defeated were Division I Loyola, Delaware State, Coppin State and Morgan State and Centennial rival McDaniel. The Blue Jay depth was on display in the overall standings as Hopkins placed 10 runners among the top 23 and 11 among the top 25.
The Blue Jays will return to action on Saturday, September 20 when they travel to Carlisle, Pennsylvania for the Dickinson Long Short Invitational.
