Marcello, Mosquera Earn National Rankings from NWCA
Dec. 1, 2011
BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior wrestlers Paul Marcello (Pembroke Pines, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) and Reid Mosquera (Andover, MA/Phillips Academy) are ranked ninth in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) individual rankings in their respective weight classes. Marcello, a two-time Centennial Conference Champion, checks in at number nine in the 141-pound weight class, while Mosquera, who won his first Centennial title last season, is ninth at 197. Marcello is currently 5-1 on the year and counts two decisions, two major decisions and one pin among his five victories. His only loss of the year came against Division I Maryland in the season-opening Terrapin Duals. He recently won all four of his matches at the Red Dragon Invitational to win the individual title at 141. Marcello, who was ranked 10th nationally in the previous rankings, is currently 30-15 in his career with the two Centennial Conference titles to his credit. He is one of just two wrestlers in school history to win two Centennial Conference individual titles.
Mosquera counts a 4-1 record to his credit with two wins by decision and two by major decision. He won his first four matches of the season before falling, 3-1, to Cortland's Jaren Myhrberg, who is currently ranked fifth in the nation at 197, in the championship match at the Red Dragon Invitational. Mosquera has been ranked ninth since the preseason rankings were announced in late October and counts a 43-21 career record to his credit. Johns Hopkins will close out the first half of its season on Friday (Dec. 2) and Saturday (Dec. 3) at Messiah's Petrofes Invitational. The Blue Jays have been a regular at the Petrofes in recent years and placed eighth here last year with Mosquera's runner-up finish highlighting a tournament that saw six Hopkins wrestlers place in the top eight of their respective weight classes. - 30 -
