LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins junior Ricky Cavallo has been named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week it was announced today. This is the first time Cavallo has earned the award.
Cavallo won the 133-pound title at the season-opening Messiah Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record on Saturday, November 4. He opened his run to the title with a 19-0 technical fall victory against Messiah’s Bryton Stidfole and added an 11-0 major decision of Elizabethtown’s Zach Martin in the quarterfinals.
Cavallo earned his second technical fall of the tournament with a 19-1 victory against Ray Calderaio of Ursinus in the semifinals and then topped Messiah’s Hunter Harris, 10-8 in overtime, in the championship match. Harris entered the season ranked 10th in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Cavallo’s first-place finish helped Johns Hopkins place fifth in the 10-team tournament. The Blue Jays will return to action on Saturday, November 11 at the Ursinus Fall Brawl.
