BALTIMORE, MD -- For just the second time in school history, the Johns Hopkins wrestling team will have two representatives at the NCAA Division III Wrestling championships as sophomores Reid Mosquera and Paul Marcello will compete at the championships starting on Friday. Wisconsin-La Crosse will serve as the host for the 38th annual Division III Championships, which will begin at 11 am local time with the first two rounds of preliminary bouts.
Mosquera won the 197-pound title at the Centennial Conference Championships two weeks ago to earn his first trip the NCAAs. He is unseeded and will carry at 23-6 record on the year into his first bout against third-seeded Bill Schindel of Mount Union. Schindel defeated Mosquera in the championship match of the Petrofes Tournament earlier this season. Since then Mosquera has won 11 straight matches and Schindel is one of just two Division III wrestlers to beat Mosquera this season.
Marcello won his second straight Centennial title at 133 pounds to earn a second consecutive trip to the NCAAs. He missed a large part of the season and will carry an 8-5 record into his first round matchup against fourth-seeded Mike McInally of RIT, who is currently 34-3 on the year. Marcello is just the second Johns Hopkins wrestler to win two Centennial titles.
