ONEONTA, NY - Johns Hopkins senior Marco Priolo won the 141-pound title and the Blue Jays claimed a trio of second-place finishes as the Hopkins wrestling team placed fourth at the 13-team Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday with 89.5 points. NYU claimed the team title with 112.5 points to win the team title, while Cortland (97) and host Oneonta (96) finished second and third, respectively.

Below is a look at JHU's top performers in the tournament:

Marco Priolo (Chevy Chase, MD/St. Johns College HS): Priolo earned the top seed and won all five of his matches to earn the team's only individual title. After opening with back-to-back pins in less than 90 seconds, Priolo found himself in the quarterfinals against eighth-seeded Nick Spencer of Southern Maine. Priolo earned a hard-fought 5-3 decision over Spencer and added a 5-0 decision over fourth-seeded Donny Clark of Wilkes to move into the championship bout. There, he decisioned Wilkes' Adam Penberthy, 3-1, to secure the 141-pound title.

David Kraus (Potomac, MD/Churchill): Kraus was the first of three straight Blue Jay wrestlers who earned second-place finishes as he took the silver in the 174-pound weight class. Kraus earned the number two seed and pinned Southern Maine's Frank Grenham in 3:36 in his first match. He added a pin over seventh-seeded Ollie Ferraro of Hunter in 6:59 in the quarterfinals and decisioned third-seeded Josh Wake of Oneonta, 5-1, in the semifinals. Kraus had his run end in the final as he dropped a tough 3-1 decision to top-seeded Pat Hogan of Southern Maine.

Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills): Fishel made it back-to-back runner up finishes for the Blue Jays as he grabbed second-place at 184 pounds. After opening with wins over Igor Babuskin (pinned - 3:18) and James Murray of Oneonta (9-2), Fishel pinned third-seeded Rob Schoner of Southern Maine in 2:55. In the championship match, Fishel went the distance with top-seeded Nick Coleman of NYU before falling, 3-2.
 

 

Tyler Schmidt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's): Competing in a tough 197-pound weight class, Schmidt also earned the number two seed and advanced to the final before losing to top-seeded Dennis Norton of Oneonta. Schmidt decisioned Bruce Pacy of Plymouth State, 5-2, and pinned Chris McGugart of NYU (1:38) in the quarterfinals. He picked up a solid 5-3 win over Brian Seher of Hunter in the semifinals before Norton beat him for the title.

Vince Domestico (Bellingham, MA/Holliston): Domestico was seeded seventh but fought his way to a fifth-place finish in the 285-pound weight class. He opened with a pin of Wilkes' Rich Read in just 36 seconds before being bounced to the consolation bracket by second-seeded Trevor Hiffa of Oneonta. In the consolation bracket Domestico earned a major decision win over James Layman of NYU (12-2) and pinned sixth-seeded Joe Murphy of Cortland (1:24) before losing to Cortland's Matt Eldredge (5-3) in the consolation semifinal. He defeated fourth-seeded Shawn Wilbert of Plymouth State in the fifth-place match.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Sunday, November 26 when the Blue Jays host Division I James Madison in a dual match at Goldfarb Gymnasium.
