Stanley and Fishel Compete at NCAA National Wrestling Championship

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Freshman Patrick Stanley and senior Eric Fishel competed at the NCAA National Wrestling Championship on Friday. Fishel was 2-1 through three rounds of action and still alive in the consolation bracket.
Stanley started his day in the 165-pound bracket by facing the number two seed in the bracket, Tyler Burkle from Coe College. Burkle was able to record the pin in 5:46 to knock Stanley into the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket, Stanley faced the seventh seed, Zach Bogardus of SUNY-Cortland. Stanley was the winner of that match by a 7-5 decision. He will now face Justin Bonitatas from the College of New Jersey. Stanley fell to Bonitatas, by a 10-5 decision.
Fishel was facing the number four seed, Joshua Zabel of Wisconsin La Crosse in his first round match at 184-pounds. Zabel, recorded a pin in :48 seconds, pushing Fishel into the consolation bracket. There he recorded a 7-5 decision over the number five seed, Ben Engelland of Wisconsin Stevens Point. Fishel will now face Ben Adams of John Carroll in the next round of the consolation bracket. He advanced past Adams with a 15-7 major decision. Fishel will now face Robert Gotreau of Augsburg. Gotreau was the number seven seed in the bracket and fell to Fishel on a 4-3 decision at the NWCA National Duals earlier this season.
Fishel will return to action as consolation bracket action on Saturday, March 8.
