GETTYSBURG, PA - Behind junior Eric Fishel who won the 184-pound weight class on Saturday, the Johns Hopkins wrestling team finished third at the Centennial Conference Championships. Ursinus won the tournament for the fifth straight year while Muhlenberg finished second.

Below is a look at JHU's top performers in the tournament:

Marco Priolo (Chevy Chase, MD/St. Johns College HS): Priolo entered the tournament as the #2 seed at 141-pounds. He got his first win of the day with a pin over Aaron Melton of Merchant Marine Academy. He followed that up with a tech fall win over the #3 seed James Bloom of Ursinus. In the championship bout, Priolo was taken down by Robert Kein of Muhlenberg, the #1 seed by a 5-2 decision.

Jim Crumlish (Blue Bell, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy): Crumlish was the #3 seed for the Centennial Conference tournament at 157-pounds. He started his day with a 3-0 decision over Zach Hetrick of McDaniel, the six seed. Crumlish suffered a 3-1 loss to Mark Barber of Ursinus in the next round. In the consolation bracket, Crumlish recorded the major decision victory over Dandridge Glitz of the Merchant Marine Academy. He then defeated Hetrick for the second time on the day to claim third place, this time by a 4-3 decision.
 

 

David Kraus (Potomac, MD/Churchill): Kraus seeded #1 at 174-pounds got a bye through first round action on Saturday. He followed that up with a 4-2 decision over Jonathan McCarthy of Ursinus who was seeded fifth. In the championship bout it was Andrew Winfield of McDaniel pulling the upset with a 10-3 decision over Kraus.

Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills): Fishel was seeded first at 184-pounds and started his day with a pin over Dean Staley of Gettysburg. Fishel advanced to the championship bout with a 12-4 major decision over the #5 seed, Max Courtney of Washington & Lee. In the championship bout, Fishel defeated #2 Harry Keyser of Ursinus with a 7-1 decision.

Tyler Schmidt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's): Schmidt entered the day seeded third at 197-pounds. He started his day with a pin over Jonathan Leinberger of Gettysburg. Schmidt then upset the #2 seed at 197-pounds as he recorded a 14-12 decision over Eric Vincent of the Merchant Marine Academy. In the 197-pound final, Schmidt fell to Matt Loesch of Muhlenberg by a major decision.

Jonathan Freeman (Salem, NH/Salem): Freeman started his day at 285-pounds by upsetting the third seed, Michael Pattanite of Gettysburg on a pin. He then dropped a 9-7 decision to Matt Williams of Ursinus to fall to the consolation bracket. There Freeman recorded a 6-4 decision over William Young of Stevens Tech before falling to John Christopher of Washington & Lee on a 4-1 decision.

Fishel earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The championships will be held on March 2nd and 3rd in Dubuque, Iowa.
