BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins wrestling team won the final five weight classes of the night for a 25-9 victory over Washington & Lee on Saturday night in Centennial Conference action.

Hopkins held a 10-9 lead in the match heading into the 165-pound weight class. Freshman Patrick Stanley (Isle of Palms, SC/Bishop England) recorded a 5-2 win by decision against Anthony Boniello. The Blue Jays then led 13-9 in the contest. Junior Chris Floyd (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) followed Stanley's win with a win of his own at 174-pounds. Floyd recorded a 6-1 decision over Robert Terrin.

Hopkins picked up its third straight win as senior Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) was a 2-0 decision winner at 184-pounds over Kirk Adamson. Junior Tyler Schmidt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) continued the Blue Jays streak with a 5-2 decision at 197-pounds. Junior Matt Rugani (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) rounded things out with a 5-2 decision at 285-pounds.

Earlier in the match, Hopkins had picked up a win at 125-pounds by forfeit before Washington & Lee won at 133-pounds. Hopkins then led 6-3 in the contest heading to141-pounds. There Ben Kauffman (Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor) recorded a major decision at 141-pounds to increase the Blue Jays lead to 10-3. Kauffman's win was by a 9-1 score against Sammy Brusca of Washington & Lee.

Washington & Lee then captured the 149 and 157-pound weight classes by decision to make it 10-9 in the match.
 

 

Hopkins will return to action on February 9 in its final regular season match of the year. The Blue Jays will travel to the Merchant Marine Academy and also will take on Stevens Tech. Action is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
