BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins wrestling team defeated McDaniel, 23-16 in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays (4-11, 3-1 CC) won their third straight match by capturing six of the 10 weight classes against the Green Terror (4-10, 0-3 CC).

McDaniel won the 125-pound weight class with a 13-0 decision before Hopkins bounced back with a win at 133-pounds. Freshman Xavier Mohammed (Clarkesville, MD/River Hill) defeated CJ Naper by an 11-4 score to cut the McDaniel lead to 4-3. Fellow freshman Ben Kauffman (Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor) gave Hopkins its first lead of the match with a pin in 3:44 at 141-pounds. Hopkins then captured its third straight weight class as senior Jim Crumlish (Blue Bell, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) was a major decision winner at 149-pounds by a 14-3 score.

McDaniel made it 13-10 in the match with a pin at 157-pounds in 1:50. The Blue Jays took the win at 165-pounds as freshman Patrick Stanley (Isle of Palms, SC/Bishop England) had a major decision win over Cory Beall by a 9-0 score. Courtney Nightengale gave the Green Terror a decision win at 174-pounds. Hopkins got wins at 184 and 197-pounds from senior Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) and junior Tyler Schmidt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) respectively. Fishel earned a 6-1 decision while Schmidt recorded a 9-3 decision.

McDaniel won the final bout of the night with a 6-2 decision at 285-pounds.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on February 2 when it hosts Washington & Lee at 7:30 p.m.
