WESTMINSTER, MD - Sophomore Tyler Schmidt's (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) pin over Ferris Bond with 30 seconds left in the first period of the match at 197-pounds helped clinch a 24-18 win for the Johns Hopkins wrestling team over McDaniel on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays (3-10, 1-3 CC) defeated the Green Terror (2-5, 1-3 CC) for the second straight time in a dual meet after losing 10 straight dual meets.

Senior Marco Priolo (Chevy Chase, MD/St. Johns College HS) broke what is believed to be the school record for single season victories with a forfeit win at 141-pounds tonight. Priolo's victory was his 28th of the season as he improves to 28-8 on the year.

McDaniel picked up wins at 125 and 133-pounds before the Blue Jays recorded wins at 141, 149 and 157-pounds. Priolo had the win at 141 while James Gettinger (New York, NY/Phillips Exeter (NH)) recorded an 11-7 decision over RJ Neaton at 149-pounds. Jim Crumlish (Blue Bell, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) picked up the 5-4 decision over Zach Hetrick at 157-pounds for the Blue Jays.

McDaniel recorded a win at 165-pounds as Courtney Nightengale recorded a 15-12 decision over Kyle Keane (West Islip, NY/West Islip).

Hopkins also picked up wins at 174, 184 and 197-pounds on the night. David Kraus (Potomac, MD/Churchill) had a 3-1 decision over Cory Beall at 174-pounds. Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) defeated Drew Winfield by a 6-4 margin and Schmidt had the win at 197-pounds.

The Green Terror also picked up a win at 285-pounds as Ryan Deiter pinned Vincent Domestico (Bellingham, MA/Holliston) in 3:48.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action next on Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Washington & Lee. The grapplers will take to the mat with action set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
