30th-Ranked York Tops Johns Hopkins in Non-Conference Wrestling Action
YORK, PA - Visiting Johns Hopkins battled 30th-ranked York to a 7-7 draw through four bouts, but the host Spartans won the next six bouts, including two by pin, to pull away to a 37-7 victory over the Blue Jays in non-conference wrestling action Friday night.
Johns Hopkins got a 10-1 win by senior Paul Bewak at 125 to grab a 4-0 lead and led 7-4 after Connor Mauriello scored a 3-2 victory in overtime at 141, but the Spartans drew even when Drew Spector edged Tommy Griffa, 3-1, at 149 and never looked back from there.
John Allenson earned a win by injury default at 157 and Hopkins forfeited at 165 as the 7-7 tie quickly became a 19-7 advantage for the Spartans. After a pair of wins by decision at 174 and 184, York's John Shorter earned a third-period pin at 197 and Mike Spencer closed it out with a first-period fall at 285.
