ALLENTOWN, PA - The Johns Hopkins wrestling team posted a 2-1 mark at Muhlenberg today, as the Blue Jays participated in a quad-match. The Blue Jays defeated Muhlenberg (28-18) and Steven Tech (36-16), but lost to Kings Point (27-13). The Blue Jays improve to 5-5 on the year, and open their Centennial schedule with a 2-1 mark.

Sophomore Jimmy Van Daniker (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) led the Blue Jays with a perfect day, posting three wins. After collecting a forfeit win over Muhlenberg, Van Daniker defeated Mike Syntax from Kings Point, 11-1. In the third round of the day, Van Daniker picked up another forfeit, running his season record to 17-4.

Senior Dave DeGaravilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown), like Van Daniker posted a perfect 3-0 record. DeGaravilla opened the day with an 8-6 overtime victory over Joe Tartar of Muhlenberg. In his next match, DeGaravilla won a hard-fought, 1-0 decision over Adam Shrives of Kings Point. DeGaravilla picked up a forfeit victory in his final match of the day, moving his season mark to 16-8.


 

 

Freshman Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) matched DeGaravilla and Van Daniker’s record as he too went 3-0. He opened his day defeating Frank Pepe of Muhlenberg in his opening bout, 3-1. Against Kings Point he defeated Eric Rohan by an 8-2 margin. Fishel saved his best for last as he pinned Nick LaFronz-Emberger of Stevens Tech in his final match of the day in only 1:30.

Senior Joe Selba (Pasadena, MD/Mt. St. Joe), wrestling in the 165-pound class, posted a 2-1 mark. In his opening round match, Selba pinned Chris Gibson of Muhlenberg in only 1:41. Against Kings Point he defeated Jason Maltese, 8-2. Selba fell just short of a perfect mark as he lost to Ryan Bennick of Stevens Tech, 7-2.

JHU will return to action Tuesday night when they play host to Ursinus and Baptist Bible.
