COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins wrestling team posted a 1-3 mark in the North/South Duals as hosted by Ursinus College today. The Blue Jays defeated MIT (49-6), but dropped matches to Johnson and Wales (38-6), Wesleyan (21-19) and Trinity (40-7).

Senior Tony Dambro (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) tied for best record among Blue Jay wrestlers, as he posted a 3-1 mark on the day. Dambro opened by pinning Carmine Davis of Johnson & Wales, and picking up the Blue Jays only six points in the match. Against MIT, Dambro again won by pinning his opponent. In his third match of the day, Dambro pinned Thosue Prado of Wesleyan in only 2:50 to run his record to 3-0. In his last bout, Dambro lost to Oded Carmi of Trinity by a 5-2 score, falling just short of a perfect, 4-0 mark.

Freshman Eric Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) matched Dambro’s record, by posting a 3-1 mark as well. After dropping his first match of the day to Tim Ruberg of Johnson & Wales, Dambro rebounded and won his next three matches. Against MIT, he picked up a major decision victory over Alex Cutting, 8-0. Next, against Wesleyan, he again won by major decision, defeating Jeremy Stuart, 12-1. In his final bout of the day, Fishel defeated Eric Viani of Trinity, 8-4.

Sophomore Jimmy Van Daniker (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) posted a 2-2 mark at the Duals. Van Daniker dropped his match against Brandon McDonough of Johnson & Wales, 8-7, but came back to defeat Bao Truong of MIT, in a major decision, 10-1. After being defeated by Don Torrenti of Weleyan, 3-1, Van Daniker evened his record on the day by defeating Jim Malone, 11-2.

Senior Dave de Garavilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) won his second and third matches of the day, also posting a 2-2 mark. De Garavilla was pinned by Jim-Bob Stanley in his first match, but came back and pinned Daniel Fuentes of MIT, and defeated Steve Campbell of Wesleyan, 2-0.

Sophomore Marco Priolo (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John’s College), like de Garavilla, won his second and third matches of the day, en route to a 2-2 record. Priolo, lost his first match, 7-4, but pinned Jacob Bourgeois of MIT in his second match, and defeated Dan Zeigarnick of Weslyan, 8-5. Priolo failed to go 3-1 on the day as he was pinned by William Moyet of Trinity in his final match.

Senior Joe Selba (Pasadena, MD/Mt. St. Joe), like his other two teammates, won his second and third matches after dropping his first match, as he finished 2-2. In his first bout, Selba was defeated by Joe Boucher of Johnson & Wales, 7-3. He then pinned Travis Samuel of MIT, and defeated Dan Case of Weleyan, 7-5, before getting pinned in his final match against Trinity.

JHU will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Allentown to battle Muhlenberg, US Merchant Marine Academy and Stevens Tech.
